In the sixties, the human race journeyed into the vastness of outer space after sending dogs and monkeys. Neil Armstrong walked on the moon and hit a golf ball into that inky darkness. Even since then the human race has been sending up shuttles, building space stations and making plans to explore more of outer space in the hopes of learning, finding life and finding a way to support life on other planets. How wonderful. There are reservations already made for the first commercial trip to the moon.
There more room out there for building, discovering and even more space to send our trash. We have considered cremating our dead and shooting them into space so that our relatives can see their loved ones once a year orbit the planet. Here on the planet that we already occupy, when someone discovers new territory one must immediately claim the land for whatever country they represent. The discovery was not enough, it must be claimed and borders must be defined. It is obvious how the human race will behave once they have a foothold on outer space. It will be a shooting spree in the name of claiming whatever borders each country feels entitled to and if no one can agree then there will just be war.
Once we arrive to build and scheme, we will bring our waste and trash. Maybe once we can figure out how not to destroy this planet we might deserve to venture to outer space. Until then hopefully we stay put.
